Information Session and Resource Development Workshop
An informational session on the RFP, followed by a workshop on resource development, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 24th from 9-12 at MCAEL's offices at the Nonprofit Village at 12320 Parklawn Drive, Rockville, MD 20852. (Directions can be downloaded under Contact Us)

About the workshop: Creative and Practical Strategies for Raising Resources
We all know that government funding has shrunk, foundations have cut back, individuals are stretched thin, we're spending all our time energy keeping our programs running, and wondering how we're going to meet payroll. Sound familiar? What do we do? This workshop will provide an overview of promising practices for a range of resource development strategies - from earned income to different uses of volunteers. It will help participants think about creative and practical things they can do to increase resources for their organization, and provide space for participants to share their own experiences and ideas. Led by Hilary Binder Aviles of MOSAICA. Please RSVP to connect@mcael.org if you are planning to attend. No application is required.

Proposal Deadline:
Proposals must be hand-delivered to MCAEL by appointment the week of March 29th but no later than 4 pm on Friday, April 2nd. Late or incomplete proposals will not be considered. If you would like MCAEL staff to review your application and provide feedback, please submit your draft no later than Wednesday, March 17th.

Purpose:
This Request for Proposals is intended to support Adult English Literacy Programs, with the objective of increasing the availability of adult ESOL and literacy services through program grants that support identified community needs and improve the quality of services offered to diverse populations.

Programs to be funded should take place between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. Funds are available to maintain, increase, and improve delivery of adult English literacy services to Montgomery County residents and workers. Funds are also available to strengthen the infrastructure of nonprofit adult English literacy providers by supporting the improvement of their management and organizational capacity. Note: MCAEL strongly encourages creative partnerships that leverage resources.

Who is Eligible to Apply:
Applicants must be private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organizations or partnerships which include a 501(c)(3) organization. While applicants can have offices outside Montgomery County, beneficiaries of funded services must be either Montgomery County residents or employed in Montgomery County. An organization may apply for MCAEL funding regardless of whether it has previously applied for other County administered grant programs, such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
