Events & Training

The foundation of a strong literacy community is a professional network of adult educators and program leaders who are prepared with the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality instruction and to lead successful programs. MCAEL offers provider meetings for program staff, workshops for instructors led by local and nationally recognized experts (valued at about $30/hour/person) and awards for both staff and instructors. View a sample list of past workshops and trainings. MCAEL supports and encourages instructors and staff to connect to the broader professional community that exists in the Montgomery County and Washington D.C. area.

Meetings and Workshops: Meetings and Workshops listed below are offered at "no-cost" to attendees. For the meetings, please send an email to admin@mcael.org to RSVP. For the workshops, please fill out the application below and send to program@mcael.org. Send applications in early! For the workshops, MCAEL will confirm attendees on a first-come first serve basis. Once the workshop is full, a waitlist will be created. The workshop applications will be reviewed by the trainers prior to the workshops. Please click here for a workshop application.

Awards: Awards are available to attend local conferences and events through the Dr. Deborah Bhattacharyya Professional Development Award Fund. MCAEL will provide stipends for the “member early registration” rate only. First-time attendees will have priority; however, all are encouraged to apply. Stipends may be partial or full. Applications will be reviewed and a number of factors considered including: strength of application, interest, benefit to individual and community, need, timing. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis and until allocated funds are depleted. Please see below for a list of upcoming conferences or visit our partners websites via the advocacy page. Applicants will receive an email notification as to status of th application. Awardees will be reimbursed for conferences upon submitting payment receipt from the organization and 150 word respoonse on attending.
