MCAEL Community Grants Panel 2016

Help determine funding for Adult English Literacy Classes

The Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy is seeking professionals and community members passionate to serve on the MCAEL Community Grants Panel in the spring of 2016. MCAEL receives funding from Montgomery County government to support quality adult English literacy classes in the county. MCAEL community grants will support programs for fiscal year 2017 (July 2016 - June 2017). The panel consists of nonprofit professionals, business leaders, education/ESOL specialists, and community representatives from around and in the Montgomery County area. (Note: Individuals who are in leadership roles - e.g., staff members or board members, etc. - in literacy organizations receiving or applying for grant funding from MCAEL in Montgomery County or those who otherwise have a similar conflict of interest are not eligible).
The time commitment for this process runs from April – June, with an orientation on April 26 at 5:30 pm. Grant panelists read and evaluate applications from 20-30 applicants; interview applicant organizations (May 11 & 13) and meet as a group to make funding recommendations on June 3. The MCAEL Board of Directors makes final funding decisions. A more detailed schedule of time commitment is available upon request.
This is a wonderful opportunity for those who are interested in literacy; learn more about grant processes; and/or who have a strong desire to build an inclusive 21st Century Montgomery through adult English literacy!
Interested applicants living or working in the County should submit their letter of interest with a resume to admin@mcael.org no later than March 1, 2016.
"With such a diverse population as there is in Montgomery County, it would be a sound investment for the future to have that population well educated."
