MCAEL Professional Development Conference 2024

On March 15, over 100 adult educators from across Montgomery County gathered for MCAEL’s biennial professional development conference focused on learner-centered instruction. It was a day of thought-provoking conversation, hands-on exploration, and practical strategies for enhancing learner-centered instruction.
The conference was held at the BlackRock Center for the Arts. Attendees were able to choose from a variety of workshops throughout the day and participated in interactive all-group activities in the Black Box Theater. The keynote speaker was Dr. Drew Fagan, Associate Clinical Professor & TESOL Program Coordinator at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Preceding the conference, MCAEL pulled three key areas of learner feedback identified through our Centering Learner Voices program: learner satisfaction, communication needs, and the inclusion of learner voices in decision making. During an activity called the Coalition Cafe, attendees workshopped and shared ideas about how to address these key areas in their classrooms.
